Physicochemical Properties: White hexagonal crystal system crystalline or powder; odorless, nontoxic, and fine and smooth. Relative density is 5.606, refractive index 2.008-2.029, melting point 1975. Soluble in acid, sodium hydroxide and ammonium chloride; insoluble in water, ethanol and ammonia; and it is amphoteric oxide. It can absorb carbon trioxide and water in the air to produce zinc carbonate in yellow color. While heated, it becomes yellow and resumes white after cooling down. It is ultraviolet radiation resistant, and will not become black meeting with sulfureted hydrogen; and easily disperse in rubber or latex.
Uses: Used in rubber or cables; can make rubber be better in corrosion resistance, tear resistance and elasticity. And also used as vulcanization activator of natural rubber, coloring agent and filler of white rubber, vulcanizing agent of chloroprene rubber. Those of fine particles (particle size around 0.1um) can be used as light stabilizing agent of plastics including polyolefins or chloroethylene, etc.
